Career changes are more than they seem. This is a time of transformation, and that comes with hope, excitement, fear, uncertainty, self-confidence, self-doubt. You might be stepping toward a long-held dream or moving away from something that’s no longer working. You might have no idea what's next (a wildly beautiful place to be - do not miss the potential here).
Anyone who has the courage to make a career change faces an incredible opportunity - a moment to truly reassess, and to change the direction of your life.
I remember the first time I made such a life-altering decision. It came from several trips to the Eastern Sierra Mountains from my home in Santa Cruz, CA. I had no idea what I was doing or inviting in or why, but the mountains quickly moved into my heart, and I had no choice but to leave the life I knew in order to be in their presence. This meant leaving behind the career I had started in conservation - a career I really liked, but wasn't quite making use of my creative and leadership skills or fulfilling me. Long story short, this led to a miraculous seven years in Bishop CA in which I opened an aerial arts studio and broke the 20-year disconnect with my voice - leaning into my childhood dream of becoming a singer, releasing my debut album, and meeting the love of my life.
I share this because if I hadn't taken several months and many visits to the Eastern Sierra to be with myself, I might have just jumped from one unfulfilling career to another. I don't want you to miss this opportunity. I don't want you to make that mistake. I'm deeply excited for the possibilities if you can really stretch out and turn inward during this exciting transitional time.
In these moments of transformation, it’s easy for anxiety to take over and to to get pulled into logistics: polishing your resume, strategizing your next move, maybe scrolling job boards. Now, in some cases, the financial situation is such that you have to move quickly. But even still, you can take something and let it be a transition as you continue to reflect. But be careful, because in all that forward momentum, we can miss one of the greatest opportunities of our lives.
That’s where Mountains and Reiki comes in.
A Space to Breathe and Gather Yourself
Career transitions have a way of unearthing everything we’ve been carrying. Stress, doubts, fears, excitement—it’s all there, all at once. You need practices that help you to step out of the whirlwind and take stock of where you are. You need to be able to get clear, regain access to your intuition, and be able to tolerate and get past the initial flood of thoughts that sends you impulsively to the next unfulfilling path.
Mountains - we are blessed to live with mountains here in Boulder, CO. Mountains are spaces of reflection. Of quiet. Of such grandeur that they help you think bigger - freer. I beg of you - go walk amongst these beings - alone. Go be held in the canyons and the cliffsides and let the wild reconnect you to your essence. You won't have to think hard or brainstorm. The answers will come. Do it not once, but over and over, until you start to feel it - you will start to feel it. Once you can really feel the place - you have reconnected with yourself.
Reiki has a similar effect, but has a knack of getting quite specific. When you’re lying on the table, everything gets quieter. Your mind, your body, your nerves. In that stillness, you start to hear not what you necessarily want, but what you really need. With the support of somatic work, breathwork, and meditation, we go deeper, past the first layer (which is usually anxiety) and down way below to find out what's really waiting to be discovered.
Reiki is like a container—a supportive space where you can process what’s forming inside you, without judgment or pressure to have it all figured out.
Why Transitions Need Spaciousness
Making a career change isn’t just about landing the next job or starting the next business. It’s about becoming. You’re stepping into a new version of yourself, and that process takes energy—more than we realize.
In sessions, I’ve seen how creating even a small pocket of time for yourself can shift so much. A Reiki session can help you untangle the tension that keeps you stuck, find steadiness in uncertainty, and reconnect with the part of you that knows exactly what you’re capable of.
